Fife College and its talented students are heavily involved in the Programme, using their creative skills in live projects, from creative arts and video production to aerial surveying and graphic design, to create products that will enhance the Programme as well as benefitting the environment and local community.
In 2019, over 30 students studying for an HND Visual Communication took part in a branding project, which saw them come up with designs for a logo and visual identity for the Programme. The designs were developed as part of their graded unit for the course and then submitted to a panel of judges.
The winning logo, which is now used on all of The Leven Programme materials was chosen as it conveys the three pillars of sustainability, (Economic, Environmental and Social). The waved lines beneath the pillars represent the waterway that will be transformed and the fabric mills that once dominated Fife, and is symbolic of the threads that tie the communities together.
Students studying for an HND is digital modelling have used the river as inspiration for their course work. Students were asked to map a section of the river catchment and recreate it in a 3D digital format.
Games design students have used the river as the setting of their interactive games proposals. Students researched the history of the river and came up with proposals on how the river could be incorporated into an interactive game.
For the 2019-2020 session, students will be working together to develop an interactive app/game that will be used by the Programme in our wider engagement with local communities.
