Hidden Heritage

Hidden Heritage

Led by Archaeology Scotland

To build on the Methil Mill project, Hidden Heritage was developed from the community’s desire to understand how people worked and lived along the river, as well as wanting the heritage which may not be recorded in the history books to be explored and shared.

This project will be co-delivered in four streams of work:

  1. People in the Papers: Working with local history groups to carry out archive research including newspaper archives, transcript production and recording at least 6 oral histories.
  2. Power of Participation: Further excavations to uncover and investigate historical buildings within the River Park which were highlighted as important to the community.
  3. Picturing the Past: Bringing these sites to life through 3D modelling and the creation of artistic visualisations resulting in a Storymap.
  4. Stories in a Box: The design of learning kits which tell the stories of sites, people and themes important to the community, and turning those into booklets – one called ‘Places of the River Park’ and another called ‘Our Stories of the River Park’.

The project will also aim to bring national attention to the area’s history through two popular publications in heritage-themed outlets, an academic publication, production of social media content and the inclusion of Archaeology Scotland Heritage Hero awards.

Hidden Heritage will provide something for everyone to get involved in because of the diverse range of activities on offer, ensuring the pride in Levenmouth’s history can be spread widely and passed down the ages.
